October 23, 2009, Newsletter Issue #126: Saving Energy and Money on Your Next Artificial Christmas Tree

1

Tip of the Week

An LED artificial Christmas tree is probably one of the best gifts you could give yourself and your family during the holidays. Not only are the lights extremely long-lasting, they’re excellent energy savers. Power companies report that LED (light emitting diodes) holiday lights:

1) Use 90 percent to 95 percent less energy than traditional bulbs

2) Produce very little heat, reducing the risk of fire

3) Last at least 10 times longer than conventional lights

4) Are more durable, with no filaments or glass bulbs to break

This is great news for families with children or pets. Remember how hot those old Christmas tree lights used to get? This year, when the big Christmas tree sale takes place, look for something that really gives you value. A good quality tree is going to save you a lot more time and money in the years to come than you’d save overall by buying that cheaper, less energy-efficient artificial Christmas tree.
