December 18, 2009, Newsletter Issue #134: Christmas Charity for Children

Tip of the Week

When Christmas rolls around, those feelings of charity and goodwill rise to the surface. People start looking for ways to help out. Sometimes it’s hard to come up with new and unique ways of contributing to the good in the world, but you can’t go wrong if you focus your efforts on helping children in need.

Stock up on mid-sized or tabletop Christmas trees at the next Christmas tree sale and consider donating them to children’s wards in hospitals or clinics. Children undergoing chemotherapy or other serious medical treatments will welcome a fiber-optic Christmas tree! So what if there’s one, two, or even three artificial fiber-optic Christmas trees in the waiting room. The more the better!

Before heading out to the Christmas tree sale, there are a few things you should do first:

1) Contact the clinic, hospital or organization where you’d like to donate a tree. Make sure they have no restrictions or guidelines on what they can and can’t use for artificial trees.

2) Depending on the number of children on the ward and the amount of money you want to spend, you might want to consider asking what types of gifts would be appropriate to put under the new tree.

3) Make sure to buy trees with low-heat LED lights or fiber optic trees for safety.

4) Ask the ward or clinic if they have storage space for the tree after the holidays. If not, you might want to consider offering to store the tree yourself until next year.

What better gift to give a child than the shiny, twinkling majesty of a Christmas tree.
